An Illuminated Cabin

Built in 1862 in the village of Vedbaek, a port situated about 20 kilometres from Copenhagen, this former fishing shack is now a peaceful house for a couple who have opted to raise their children away from the city exactly where they work, so they can take pleasure in a quieter house life. They commissioned Danish architect Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen, founder of the agency Norms Architect Copenhagen, to expand and modernize their tiny home, with an emphasis on light as a significant component of the redesign. The extensive use of white, clever storage, minimal furniture and open spaces makes their home really feel far larger than it in fact is — even on the greyest days it feels light and airy. Lovely.
